There are two distinct types of Lima beans, one which originated in the Andes around 2000 BCE, has large seeds. The other, smaller-seeded, originated around 800 AD in Mexico. This type is often called butter beans. Limas can be grown in a wide variety of climates and can tolerate cool and hot temperatures.
