Sweet Annie, Artemisia annua

An elegant and delightfully scented variety of wormwood in the Asteraceae family. Grows up to 5 feet tall and has small greenish yellow flowers arranged in loose panicles. The airy foliage resembles a bright green lace, making this a great filler flower and a beautiful everlasting flower for wreaths. Direct sow in the garden in Spring, placing seeds every few inches and then thinning to about 12-18”. Plants will be smaller the closer they are together, reaching great heights if given space.

Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua) is tied to the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine which was awarded to Tu Youyou for discovering artemisinin—a powerful antimalarial compound extracted from the plant.
