For our 2025 Tomato Trial, Siskiyou Seeds grew 35 plants each of 55 varieties of tomatoes. We included some research and evaluation around new, unique, large, colorful slicers for which seed availability is very limited. We also focused on top performing de-hybridized favorites - like the our winner (see below!)

We sourced seeds from various breeders like our friends at Seed Revolution Now where longtime grower/seed breeder, Steve Peters has been working with longtime tomato breeder, Kanti Rawal on breeding disease resistance and climate adaptation into classic heirlooms such as Cherokee Purple and Brandywine and the dehybvridized California Sungold which we definitely plan to offer as a new variety this year. And we finally got a chance to grow some of the wondrous varieties from Lisa Troutner at Carmella Bella Farm such as Sgt. Peppers Pink, Lithium Sunset and Rebel Starfighter. We planted all this along with some of our tried and true Siskiyou Seeds standards such as German Streaked, Granny Cantrell's and Berkeley Tie-Dye (originally from Brad Gates @ Wild Boar Farms).

Additionally, we were performing yield trials in collaboration with the Organic Seed Alliance and the OSPREY (Organic Seed Production Research and Education of Yields) project for 3 varieties that we've offered for 15 years: Amish Paste, Peacevine Cherry and Brandywine

We brought some of our favorites to the Culinary Breeders Network/Wellspent Market Collaboration Tomato Fest to gather input in an informal taste test with an estimated 800 participants in Portland, OR on September 13, 2025.

Increasingly, Siskiyou Seeds aims to do more agro-biodiversity research and development here on our home farm to ensure that the seeds that we offer to our seed friends are the most adapted, delicious and appropriate for small scale gardens and homesteads. We welcome your input and feedback. Stay tuned for some fun new introductions!
