As we collectively celebrate another turn of the wheel the reflections from the previous season compost into wisdom and inspiration for the coming season and while the seeds quietly slumber in storage. May we all listen for the quiet whisper of growth yearning to be actualized.
Our variety trials this season include summer squash, onions, broccoli and a huge 55 variety tomato trial which with many new to us rare varieties of unique slicer tomatoes with bold and wonderous names like “Lithium Sunset,” “Rebel Starfighter” and “Sweet Zebra Roma.” We are offering limited quantities of seeds for these and many more and look forward to receiving your feedback. Many of them scored high and received rave reviews from numerous taste tests. We also trialed 8 different Italian and Catalonian storage tomatoes and have seeds available. Gorgeous “ristras” of clusters of them hang in our kitchen while we evaluate how long they store and what using them in Winter is really like. Stay tuned for updates.
Peeling back the layers of the onion that is agrobiodiversity and development I am routinely amazed that potential still exists! New flavors, colors, aromas and phenotypes bubble up from the wellspring of the intersection between sun, soil, water and gardeners’ curiosity. It’s astounding to think that despite the 16,000 named strains of tomato in GRIN (the USDA’s Germplasm Resources Information Network), that there is still ample room and interest in new varieties like those named above!
We happily welcome the return of some old favorites like “Dreamin’ Remix Zinnias”, “Dark Star Zucchini” and “Purple Picnic Pepper” with new seed grown in 2025.

I’d like to share a wonderful book, certain to delight any inquisitive plant lover, recommended to me by Frank Morton (Wild Garden Seeds). The Light Eaters, by Zoe Schlanger is a foray into the wild and fantastic interactions between plants, photons and natural systems. I find the title particularly intriguing. While plants don’t literally “eat” light, it is an apt metaphor. As we welcome in the fantastically sci-fi sounding year of 2026 may we continue to harness the magic of our star’s light, grow this light, share this light and spread the light of plants, beauty and abundance far and wide.
Grow with the light!
