Devil’s Claw

Proboscidea parviflora (90 days) 

A very unique plant long cultivated by indigenous peoples throughout the desert southwest where the immature pods are used as food and the mature seed pods used in basketry.  12” long seed pods are sharply hooked and resemble a somewhat menacing looking claw, hence the common name. Large white seeds best started indoors and transplanted once the risk of frost has passed as the plants are frost tender.  Grows to about 18-24” tall.  The large pink flowers are quite showy.
