Licorice, American -Glycyrrhiza leidota – Perennial.
A nitrogen fixing member of the legume family. Wild Licorice is different from the European species used to flavor licorice candy, Glycyrrhiza glabra. However, the root does taste like licorice, and like other licorice, it is made sweet by glycyrrhizin. The root is useful for a wide variety of ailments. Hardy perennial that grows to 4-5’ tall with pretty legume flower clusters that give way to unique spiny seed pods. SSF.
