Valeriana officinalis – Perennial
We have found that common Valerian naturalizes quite well here in western Oregon, dying back in winter and re-growing vigorously in spring, then flowering in May with 5-6’ tall flower stalks with open clusters of diminutive but very aromatic pink/white flowers. The roots are traditionally used as sedative, painkiller and sleep aid. The flowers are also used in the making of one of the Biodynamic compost preparations. HOO
